Over a Year Later, AMD Is Bringing Improved FSR 4 Upscaling to Its Older GPUs
AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics Jack Huynh announced FSR Upscaling 4.1 will arrive on Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs in July, expanding support beyond the latest RDNA4 architecture.
Porting FidelityFX Super Resolution to older hardware required adapting the technology for INT8 chips, as previous versions relied on the FP8 data format found in newer RDNA4-based components.
Support will also extend to the RDNA2 architecture in early 2027, which includes the Radeon RX 6000 series, integrated GPUs like the Radeon 680M, and the Steam Deck.
Over 300 games will be supported at launch, offering users of older graphics cards access to improved upscaling technology previously available only on the latest hardware.
This update helps older Radeon GPUs close the competitive gap with Nvidia DLSS, enabling low- to mid-range graphics cards to deliver sharper visuals and smoother frame rates.
