For the first time since its closure in 1984, trains are stopping at Antwerp-Linkeroever station again. The temporary reopening is one of the alternatives to the closure of the premetro tunnel, which is being renovated for 11 months. "It is good that you don't have to pay for this anymore," says traveler Rudy De Ceunynck on the new platform.
A train stopped at Antwerp-Linkeroever train station on Saturday afternoon for the first time in 42 years. The reopened station is one of the most important alternatives for crossing the Scheldt when the premetro tunnels between the left and right banks close on Monday. “The station was completely renovated in a record time of just four months,” says Koen Kerckaert of NMBS.
