Napoli Confirm Conte Exit with Allegri Tipped as New Coach
Napoli said Conte left by mutual agreement after two seasons, with Allegri in advanced talks to replace him after missing the Champions League.
SSC Napoli announced on Thursday that coach Antonio Conte has left the club after two years, following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract before its natural expiry.
Guided by Conte, Napoli won the Italian Super Cup and their Italian Serie title, yet finished second in the table this season, 11 points behind champions Inter.
Conte previously told the club president that he "failed" to bring unity to the environment, making it difficult to compete, which influenced his decision to depart.
Massimiliano Allegri is tipped to take over as Napoli is reportedly in advanced talks with the former AC Milan manager following his recent departure from the Italian Serie club.
Conte is widely touted as the favorite to return as Italy coach, a role he previously held after the national side failed to qualify for the World Cup.
Naples, Italy's vice-champion, officially announced on Thursday the departure of his coach, Antonio Conte. Limoged by the AC Milan, Massimiliano Allegri is expected to replace him.
