Alexander Volkanovski Stops Movsar Evloev in 2nd Round to Retain Featherweight Title at UFC 333
Volkanovski outstruck Evloev 45-37 and scored a takedown before ending the bout with ground-and-pound, ESPN reported.
At UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, Alexander Volkanovski retained his featherweight title with a second-round technical knockout victory over Movsar Evloev before 18,000 fans at the Etihad Arena.
Defeating the undefeated Movsar Evloev proved a rare feat for the 38-year-old champion, reinforcing his standing among all-time featherweight greats according to MMA History Today.
According to ESPN, Alexander Volkanovski landed 45 of 109 strikes while Evloev connected on 37 of 88; referee Marc Goddard stopped the contest after five minutes of action.
Following the fight, Volkanovski told Daniel Cormier that minimal damage sustained might prompt another bout, suggesting a lightweight superfight: "Imagine that, do it as a send-off."
Pursuing a lightweight title remains a goal despite previous setbacks against Islam Makhachev; a stylistic matchup against Gaethje could offer the 38-year-old veteran his two-belt dream.
