Major Change Heading to More than 230 Aldi Stores as Part of Huge Investment
The £17.5 million programme will help Aldi generate up to 30% of a store’s annual energy needs.
Aldi announced plans to invest £17.5 million installing solar panels at 230 additional UK stores between 2027 and 2031, with each installation capable of providing up to 30% of a store's annual energy requirements.
This new initiative builds on Aldi's existing £8.4 million programme to fit solar panels on 100 additional stores during 2025 and 2026, with more than 500 stores expected to have solar panels by the end of this year.
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi, said the retailer has "plenty of space on our store roofs," noting that onsite electricity generation reduces grid reliance and improves sustainability.
Total investment in renewable energy will reach approximately £26 million by 2031, complementing a separate £300 million store upgrade programme announced earlier this year to introduce energy-saving features.
Across England, Scotland and Wales, nearly 30 new stores will open before Christmas, including 24 new branches and three site relocations scheduled over the next 10 weeks.
