Following the suspension of Akçakoca Mayor Fikret Albayrak of the CHP (Republican People's Party) from his duties as part of an investigation into the crime of 'extortion through coercion', Alev Ünal was elected as acting mayor.
Following the arrest and removal from office of Fikret Albayrak, the mayor of Akçakoca district in Düzce, on charges of "extortion through coercion," AK Party council member Alev Ünal was elected as acting mayor with 9 votes.
Following the arrest and removal from office of CHP's Akçakoca Mayor Fikret Albayrak on charges of corruption, the municipal council convened an extraordinary meeting. In a secret ballot, AK Party's Alev Ünal received 9 votes and was elected acting mayor. With this result, the administration of Akçakoca Municipality passed to the AK Party.
