AI traffic is growing 45% a year, but still equals just over 1 visit for every 100 from Google
AI assistant referrals rose 45% year over year, but they still accounted for just 0.36% of visits as Google organic clicks fell 15%, SEOcrawl AI said.
On Friday, November 6, 2026, SEOcrawl AI reported that traffic from conversational assistants grew roughly 45% year-over-year, while traditional Google organic clicks fell 15% across more than 16,000 websites.
Analyzing data from more than 16,000 websites, the analysis tracks traditional search and generative channels side-by-side, finding that AI-driven traffic remains a tiny fraction of total web visits compared to traditional search.
ChatGPT dominates the AI traffic landscape with 83%, followed by Gemini at 6%, Perplexity at 5%, Claude at 4%, and Copilot at 2% across more than 3,000 sites with analytics connected.
Jesús Páez Moreno, CEO of SEO Alive, warned that waiting for AI channels to mature is a strategic mistake because early positioning is critical; AI currently contributes 1.25 visits per every 100 from Google organic search.
Traffic share from AI assistants rose from 0.24% to 0.36% in a single year, yet websites are not recovering lost traditional search clicks through these new generative channels at pace.
