Asian Cup Organizers Set Kickoff Times and Detailed Schedule for the 2027 Tournament in Saudi Arabia
The 24-team tournament will run through Feb. 5, with the final also set in Riyadh and organizers citing broadcast and fan-arrangement needs.
On Monday, the Asia Football Confederation announced the 2027 AFC Asian Cup schedule, confirming that host Saudi Arabia will kick off the tournament against Palestine on January 7 at Riyadh's King Fahd Sports City Stadium.
Organizers released the finalized schedule to reassure federations that planning remains on track despite regional hostilities, with spokesman Muhammed Q. Alghamdi stating, "daily life is ongoing in Saudi Arabia."
Spanning 51 matches across eight venues, the monthlong championship features 24 teams playing in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Khobar, with the final on February 5 at the 72,000-seat King Fahd Sports City Stadium.
Defending champions Qatar begin their title defense against Thailand on January 11, while Japan opens its campaign against Indonesia the same day.
The tournament faces heightened scrutiny following the cancellation of other international events in Saudi Arabia, including the WTA Finals and a BMX cycling qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
