Taliban Voices Concern over US Plans to Deport Afghans
Kabul said it is prepared to engage with Washington as more than 150 Afghans face removal and rights groups warn of risks to former allies.
On Monday, the Afghan Taliban urged the United States to act responsibly regarding deportations of Afghan immigrants via Pakistan, stating Kabul is prepared to engage constructively with Washington.
Because Washington lacks diplomatic ties with the Taliban, the United States plans to deport more than 150 Afghans through Pakistan, including relatives of individuals who assisted United States forces.
Foreign ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi urged the United States of America to "adopt a responsible and measured approach" regarding Afghan citizens, emphasizing "clear mutual understanding."
Advocacy groups warn removing former allies endangers their lives, citing United Nations reports of extrajudicial killings and abuses, while Taliban authorities maintain a general amnesty exists for Western-backed workers.
Pakistan earlier ordered law enforcement to arrest Afghan citizens without visas as part of a repatriation policy pushing back millions who fled decades of war, with relations remaining fraught between Islamabad and Kabul.
Afghan Taliban authorities on Monday expressed concern over reports of Washington's plans to send dozens of Afghan migrants to Pakistan for later repatriation.
