Absentee voting already surpassing 2022 pace in Minnesota
The Secretary of State’s Office says 202,252 absentee ballots have been cast, with 80,870 in person and 121,382 by mail.
Minnesota recorded 202,252 absentee ballots in the first four weeks of voting, a 17.2% increase over the 2022 midterm pace, according to the Secretary of State Office.
Secretary of State Steve Simon attributed the high turnout in this non-presidential year to "hot races" on the ballot, including Senate, House, and gubernatorial contests.
Of the 202,252 total ballots, 80,870 were cast in person and 121,382 by mail; all counties began offering early in-person voting starting Oct. 16.
Voters returning absentee ballots by hand to their election office must do so by 5 p.m. Nov. 3, a change from the previous 8 p.m. deadline.
Record primary turnout on Aug. 11 set the stage, with 1.1 million Minnesotans—about 25% of eligible voters—casting ballots, surpassing the modern-day high from 2018.
