A wounded Ukrainian soldier waited 2 days to be rescued. Then a drone flew him to safety – WTOP News
- The 475th Separate Assault Regiment announced Monday the first battlefield use of the StarGate rescue drone, completing two missions over the past week to evacuate wounded soldiers near the Russian border.
- Developed by Ukrainian technology company SkyFall, the StarGate drone features an enclosed capsule capable of carrying 150 kilograms and uses signal jammers to counter Russian electronic warfare systems.
- One soldier, identified by call sign "Izyum," waited two days with severe limb injuries before the drone arrived. "If that incredible little bird hadn't flown in," he told The Associated Press, "getting out from there would have been unrealistic."
- The drone landed in a gray zone approximately 5 kilometers from the Russian border, completing the evacuation flight in less than 15 minutes despite risks from heavy artillery fire and hostile drone activity.
- Code 9.2 commander "Flint" plans to establish a dedicated medical aviation unit to specialize in battlefield evacuations. "We plan to make changes to our regiment and create a separate medical aviation unit," he said.
