David Sullivan Steps Down as Chairman of West Ham
Interim chief executive Karim Virani will lead day-to-day operations as the club plans a board update after Sullivan’s resignation.
On Saturday, David Sullivan resigned as joint-chair and director of West Ham United Football Club with immediate effect, citing a desire to ensure unity and focus for the club moving forward.
The resignation follows reports that Sullivan faces impending publication of historic allegations concerning his personal life, which he categorically denies as 'factually incorrect and entirely false' and sensationalized by media.
None of the allegations relate to his more than 30 years in football, Sullivan stated, emphasizing he stepped down to avoid disruption to the Club while addressing matters privately.
West Ham confirmed that Interim Chief Executive Officer Karim Virani will continue leading day-to-day operations, reporting to the Board of Directors, with a future structure update expected in due course.
Businessman Daniel Kretinsky, who bought a 27 per cent stake in the Club in 2021, is reportedly set to increase his involvement as West Ham navigates leadership transition following the historic move from Upton Park to the Olympic Stadium.
To defend himself from the charges against him, David Sullivan announced on Saturday that he would resign from his position as co-president and director of the English club in West Ham.
