"We deeply regret that Sempurna could not be saved. After receiving the report from the public, the West Kalimantan BKSDA team, along with the Indonesian Animal Husbandry Association (YIARI), immediately evacuated the animal and provided medical treatment appropriate to its condition," said Murlan.
The West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) confirmed the death of an adult male orangutan named Sempurna on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
