Shamli Conversion Case: Ayush Malik Returns to Hinduism After Embracing Islam, Cites Parents' Emotional Pain
Ayush Malik says he returned to Hinduism voluntarily after his parents’ distress, as police continue a probe that led to two arrests under Uttar Pradesh’s anti-conversion law.
Ayush Malik, a Shamli resident, has returned to Hinduism following an investigation into his previous conversion to Islam, stating in a video that he re-embraced Sanatan Dharma voluntarily to be with his family.
Devaraj Malik filed a complaint under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, alleging his son's conversion was part of a conspiracy to gain control of family property, prompting a Uttar Pradesh Police investigation.
Weeks after the complaint, Uttar Pradesh Police arrested two people, Chandni Qureshi and her father, Islam Qureshi. Investigators revealed Ayush allegedly adopted the name Mohammad Ali and performed a nikah ceremony in Delhi.
In a video circulating on social media, Ayush apologized for his previous choices, saying, "Pain and keeping my family in mind, I have voluntarily returned to Hinduism. I want to live under the care and protection of my family."
Malik and his family maintain that his return to Sanatan Dharma is voluntary and without coercion, while investigators continue their probe without having recovered a marriage certificate related to the ceremony.
A new twist has emerged in the Shamli Ayush Malik conversion case. Malik, who adopted the name Mohammad Ali, has reconverted to Sanatan Dharma. His father, Devraj Malik, had previously alleged that his son's conversion was part of a conspiracy to seize property worth crores.
