A New Era in Long-Haul: Air Canada to Acquire Airbus A350-1000 Widebody Aircraft to Support International Network Growth
The eight A350-1000s will improve fuel efficiency by up to 25% and enhance Air Canada's long-haul reliability while supporting its environmental and financial goals.
- A firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000s was revealed by Air Canada on Feb. 11, 2026, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the second half of 2030.
- To improve operating economics and cut fuel use, Air Canada said the purchase advances long-haul fleet modernization to strengthen cost efficiency and meets its capital allocation target: 12 per cent of revenues, while Airbus estimates up to 25 per cent fuel consumption reduction.
- The A350-1000 will be powered by Rolls‑Royce's XWB97 engine and assembled in Toulouse, France, with cabin pressurization to 6,000 feet and Air Canada's new cabin standard and in-flight entertainment coming later this year.
- The airline says the aircraft will complement its existing fleet and provide flexibility for a resilient network, supporting an expanded international network this summer and next winter.
- Air Canada cautioned that forward-looking statements are subject to change, did not disclose the purchase price though the 2018 list was US$366.5-million, and reiterated net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, dependent on new technologies and sustainable aviation fuels.
