Gold Mine Collapses in Central African Republic, Killing at Least 30 Miners
A gold mining site collapsed Tuesday in the western Central African Republic, killing at least 30 miners and leaving others trapped, according to authorities and residents.
The low-tech, artisanal mine collapsed Tuesday morning in the Abba region of Nana-Mambere prefecture, according to survivor Florian Gaguende.
Rescuers are searching for additional miners believed trapped, but the chance of finding survivors is decreasing, according to Florian Gaguende.
Deputy Mayor Souleymane Bi reported that rescuers pulled 30 bodies from the collapsed mine and that injured miners are receiving treatment.
