Harry Kane Becomes First Englishman in 25 Years to Win the Ballon d’Or
- On Monday, October 26, 2026, England captain Harry Kane won the 2026 men's Ballon d'Or at the London Palladium, marking the award's 70th anniversary ceremony.
- Kane secured the accolade following a 73-goal campaign for Bayern Munich and England, becoming the first English winner in 25 years since Michael Owen in 2001.
- The ceremony experienced disruption when the official website prematurely published articles declaring Kane, Lamine Yamal, and Kylian Mbappé as winners, prompting a 30-minute delay before proceedings began.
- London City Lionesses midfielder Alexia Putellas claimed the women's Ballon d'Or, securing her third title after winning in 2021 and 2022 during the same ceremony.
- Kane's victory positions him at football's pinnacle, setting the stage for future rivalries with younger stars Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé as the sport's competitive landscape evolves.
