Marking 80 years since the end of World War II in Europe, dozens gathered Thursday at the National World War II Memorial to commemorate Victory in Europe Day with a solemn ceremony honoring the sacrifice of Allied forces and the legacy of the “Greatest Generation.”
The Head of State participated, Friday, in the memorial event of those who lost their lives in World War II. During the solemn ceremony that took place at the "Eternity" Memorial complex, President Maya Sandu said that on May 9th, we gather together with the mind and heart to commemorate one of the most painful pages of human history – a war in which more than 70 million people died.
It's been 80 years since peace and freedom came after five years of occupation and war. Many lined up to take the train and participate in the May 8th celebration.
