8 Injured in Reported Boat Explosion at Restaurant
Officials said seven victims were on the boat and two were on a nearby dock as investigators probe the cause.
Nine people were injured in a boat explosion Saturday afternoon at Schaefer Canal House in Chesapeake City, Maryland, prompting a large emergency response from multiple agencies at the waterfront marina.
Volunteer Fire Company of Chesapeake City and Cecil County Paramedics arrived around 4:20 p.m., with IAFF Local 4645 and several other emergency response agencies joining to assist the injured victims.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal confirmed "seven were on the boat and two were on a nearby dock." Four patients were flown to hospitals by Maryland State Police Aviation Command and ChristianaCare HealthNet.
Deputy State Fire Marshals are actively investigating the cause of the explosion. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the severity of the injuries sustained by the nine victims.
The investigation remains active and ongoing as the Maryland State Fire Marshal stated additional information will be released as it becomes available.
