Barrie Colts to Face Kitchener Rangers in OHL Championships
Ben Hrebik stopped 40 shots as Barrie earned its fifth OHL final berth and first since 2013.
On Monday night, the Barrie Colts defeated the Brantford Bulldogs 5-0 in Game 7 to clinch the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference champions, advancing to the OHL final against the Kitchener Rangers.
Just six days ago the Colts were on the ropes after a 6-1 loss at Sadlon Arena, yet they secured the series 4-3 despite the absence of co-captain Cole Beaudoin due to an undisclosed injury.
Goaltender Ben Hrebik delivered a 40-save shutout after a 54-save performance on Saturday, while goals from Kashawn Aitcheson, Emil Hemming, Carter Lowe, and Parker von Richter secured the offense.
At the post-game press conference, Barrie coach Dylan Smoskowitz and captain Kashawn Aitcheson answered every question with "No one cares, work harder," while Brantford coach Jay McKee and captain Jake O Brien offered heartfelt responses for more than seven minutes.
The best-of-seven championship series for the J. Ross Robertson Cup begins Wednesday, May 6 in Kitchener, with games alternating between venues through a potential Game 7 on Monday, May 18, broadcast live on 570 NewsRadio.
