Sobi's Long-Serving CEO Guido Oelkers to Step Down
The board has started a successor search as Oelkers stays on through January 2027 and Sobi reports 2,000 employees worldwide.
- On Monday, Swedish Orphan Biovitrum announced CEO Guido Oelkers, Ph.D., will step down to join BioNTech SE as Chief Executive Officer, with his transition effective by February 1, 2027.
- Oelkers has led Sobi since 2017, quadrupling annual revenues to SEK 28 billion while strengthening the rare disease portfolio. He will remain active in his CEO role until end of January 2027.
- Sobi Chairman David Meek thanked Oelkers for "nearly 10 years of dedication and leadership," while Oelkers stated, "Leading Sobi has been a privilege, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together."
- The Sobi Board of Directors has launched an immediate search for a successor to ensure "continuity and a smooth transition for our business and our employees," per Meek.
- Succeeding Prof. Ugur Sahin, M.D., Oelkers will join BioNTech's Management Board to support the company's strategic evolution into a multi-product organization focused on rare diseases.
