40 Knots Winery to be acquired by K’ómoks Economic Development Corp.
KEDC says it will retain 40 Knots employees and use the winery to expand tourism and diversify its business portfolio.
On Tuesday, the KEDC announced plans to acquire 40 Knots Winery & Events Centre in the Comox Valley, with the transaction expected to be completed by the end of Oct.
KEDC CEO Mark Brajer and KFN Elected Chief Nicole Rempel identified business expansion as a priority earlier this year, aiming to generate long-term prosperity for the KFN through the acquisition.
Retaining existing staff, the corporation plans to integrate the property with the I-Hos Gallery and Puntledge RV Park & Campground, assets established around 2007 by Layne Robert Craig and Brenda Hetman-Craig.
Wine Growers CEO Jeff Guignard called the sale a positive investment signal, establishing 40 Knots as the second Indigenous-owned winery in the province after the Osoyoos Indian Band's Nk'Mip Cellars in the Okanagan.
Building on the winery's role in showcasing the region, the First Nation plans to advance the KEDC's strategic objectives and strengthen the Comox Valley's reputation as a tourism destination.
