40,000 sign petition to save DIY SOS as BBC 'rests' show after 27 years on air
A Change.org campaign has topped 40,400 signatures as the BBC says the long-running home-renovation series will return in a new spin-off.
The BBC will 'rest' DIY SOS in 2027 after its current series concludes, replacing the long-running show with a new spin-off rather than permanently cancelling it.
These decisions form part of wider efforts to save £500 million over three years, which have already resulted in the cancellation of Blankety Blank, Celebrity Mastermind, and Live At The Apollo.
Presenter Nick Knowles said he was 'disappointed' by the decision but acknowledged the broadcaster's financial pressures, while a Change petition surpassed 40,400 signatures calling for the show to be saved.
Producers South Shore will create DIY SOS Rebuilt, a spin-off revisiting past successes, while the broadcaster has also rested the annual DIY SOS Children Need special.
For 26 years, DIY SOS has transformed homes for families facing severe illness or disaster, with Knowles noting that volunteers and families remain the 'beating heart of SOS.
