Raspberry Pi Goes Large with 10.1-Inch Touch Display 2
Rising Pi prices and stronger x86 and microcontroller rivals are pushing buyers to compare larger displays, faster processors and better documentation.
- Raspberry Pi released its 10.1-inch Touch Display 2, designed for entertainment systems and dashboards, supporting 10 simultaneous touch points and 24-bit RGB color at a list price of $80.
- The higher resolution requires four DSI lanes to communicate with the host Raspberry Pi, limiting compatibility to the Raspberry Pi 5 and Compute Modules. A spokesperson told The Register: "The newer display connector on Raspberry Pi 5 and our Compute Module boards support this!"
- The display offers 1,200 x 1,920 resolution in portrait mode, though users must perform an EEPROM update for functionality. Raspberry Pi OS provides "touchscreen drivers with support for ten-finger touch and an on-screen keyboard, giving you full functionality without the need to connect a keyboard or mouse."
- With Raspberry Pi 500+ prices now rivalling those of beefier mini PCs at $410, buyers are reconsidering alternatives. Mini PCs often feature Intel N100 processors, offering greater software compatibility for home servers and self-hosting projects.
- Alternatives such as Radxa and ESP32 boards provide specific advantages in connectivity and architecture. While these competitors require more tinkering, they challenge Raspberry Pi's dominance as rising costs drive users toward diverse ecosystems in 2026.
