Police say 10 stolen vehicles worth $750,000 were recovered as four people face fraud and forgery charges in Project Octane.
Peel Regional Police charged four GTA residents on Thursday in a vehicle registration fraud scheme investigators say is linked to more than $100,000 in unpaid 407 ETR tolls.
Launched in May 2026, the investigation revealed plates registered to "fictitious companies," allowing users to evade toll and parking fees at ServiceOntario locations.
Project Octane, the investigation's operation name, resulted in recovery of 10 stolen vehicles that had been re-vinned, with an estimated value of $750,000.
Haroon Qayumzada, Gajan Karunanithy, Tariq Hameed, and Ismail Ismail face multiple charges including fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and use of forged documents.
The Commercial Auto Crime Bureau, collaborating with the Ministry of Transporation and 407 ETR, continues the investigation and urges anyone with information to contact authorities.
