750 Firefighters Are Battling Four Fires in Northern Portugal

As of 7:00am, more than 750 firefighters were battling four blazes in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, and Porto; the fire in Torre de Moncorvo required the largest deployment of resources, according to civil protection authorities.

A wildfire in a wooded area started late in the afternoon of Monday, August 17th, in the parish of Rebordões (São Bento), in the municipality of Santo Tirso. The alert was formally registered at 5:40 PM and immediately mobilized a large firefighting force. By early evening on Monday, there were 124 firefighters on the scene.

According to the IPMA the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Bragan a, Aveiro, Viseu, Guarda e Coimbra is today and have the fair under orange notice due to forecast the warm weather.
