‘They Knocked the Gun Away’: 2 Killed in Grocery Store Shooting, Good Samaritans Tackle Suspect
Police say two people were killed and a suspect is in custody after witnesses held the shooter down, with investigators calling it a possible domestic case.
On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, two people were shot and killed at a Smith's Food & Drug in the 9700 block of South Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas. Officers arrived to find the suspect restrained by three bystanders.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation, as the suspect allegedly had a prior relationship with the female victim and ongoing custody disputes involving their children.
Bystanders tackled the shooter, knocking a gun from his hand and holding him down until officers arrived within minutes. One witness observed the suspect calmly "walked out of the store" before being restrained.
Authorities identified the suspect as Alejandro Alfonso Estrada, who faces two counts of open murder and aggravated stalking for killing a husband and wife, both in their mid-40s.
Smith's remains closed while cooperating with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The company stated it is "deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence," and authorities confirmed no outstanding threat exists to the public.
