17 people died while hiking, climbing in B.C. in 2025

Most deaths were accidental, and falls were the leading cause, the B.C. Coroners Service said in a 10-year review of hiking and climbing fatalities.

  • Most deaths occurred between May and September annually, peaking in July. The Salmon Arm RCMP and Shuswap Search and Rescue responded to a hiking fatality on Bastion Mountain April 21.
