A 59-year-old Dana Point man was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the influence after fatally striking a 13-year-old boy at a crosswalk.
- On Nov. 18, a 13-year-old boy waiting at a Dana Point crosswalk was struck and later pronounced dead at a hospital, with the crash occurring around 8:20 a.m. at Dana Point Harbor Drive and Park Lantern.
- Authorities say the vehicle left the beach, turned onto Dana Point Harbor Drive, jumped a curb and responders noted it was missing a tire before striking the boy.
- The driver fled the scene but was found a few miles away with witness help; witnesses helped deputies locate him about two or three miles from the crash in San Juan Capistrano.
- A 59-year-old Dana Point resident was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and DUI and was detained for further investigation by arresting deputies in San Juan Capistrano.
- Authorities have not released the names of the victim or driver, and reports say the boy was with an older brother near the crosswalk, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.
