Walmart Employee Shot and Killed in Parking Lot in West Virginia
Investigators say the victim and suspect share children, and a pistol was recovered after surveillance footage identified the man, officials said.
On Monday, 54-year-old Eric Dewayne Richmond fatally shot 40-year-old Misty Rose Williams in the parking lot of the Nitro Marketplace Walmart. Authorities charged Richmond with first-degree murder.
Coworkers discovered Williams 'slumped over' inside her vehicle after she failed to return from a break. Records indicate Williams and Richmond shared children, though officials have not released a motive.
Surveillance video showed Richmond entering the vehicle, which then moved 'in a violent manner' and struck a parked car. Investigators recovered a 9mm handgun from the suspect's home.
Richmond was arraigned at the Kanawha County Magistrate Court on Monday and remains in custody at the South Central Regional Jail. He is being held without bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 20 to address the first-degree murder charge. Investigators continue to examine evidence regarding the circumstances of the shooting in Nitro.
