Oil prices climb and global markets decline as US prepares for blockade of Iran's ports

Oil prices jumped back ​above $100 a barrel on Monday as the U.S. Navy prepared to block ships to and from Iran via ‌the Strait of Hormuz in a move that could restrict Iranian oil exports after Washington and Tehran failed to reach a deal to end the war. Brent crude futures gained $6.81, or 7.2%, to $102.01 a barrel by 1129 GMT after settling 0.75% down on Friday. U.S. West Texas Intermediate ​was up $7.50, or 7.8%, at $104.07 after a 1.33% loss in the previous session.
