We’re looking at a recent study that supports the theory that Covid19 originated in a wet market in Wuhan, Nigeria’s recent move to condemn treatment of African refugees seeking to escape the war in Ukraine, statements by Russia’s foreign minister accusing Ukraine of seeking nuclear weapons, and how different outlets are covering Donald Trump’s speech at CPAC.

Ukrainian fighters grease bullets against Chechens with pig fat
The National Guard of Ukraine has shared video footage of Azov fighters greasing bullets with pig fat for Chechen forces deployed in their country. The Chechen Republic, a Muslim-majority federal subject of the Russian Federation headed by Islamist strongman Ramzan Kadyrov, is reported to have sent forces to Ukraine to support President Vladimir Patin's ongoing invasion of the country. Chechen fighters are notorious for alleged human rights violations including kidnapping and torture and have already been deployed to eliminate Ukrainian officials marked for death.

New studies bolster theory that COVID-19 came from Wuhan market
A pair of extensive studies released on Feb. 25, 2022 point to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market as the origin of the coronavirus pandemic. Analyzing data from a variety of sources, they concluded that the virus was very likely present in live mammals sold in the market in late 2019. They said they found no support for an alternate theory that the coronvirus escaped from a laboratory in Wuhan.

7,000 more U.S. troops in armored brigade heading to Germany amid Ukraine attack
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin deploys an additional 7,000 US troops to Europe. The move is intended to bolster NATO countries in Eastern Europe in the face of Moscow's aggression. The US plans to continue its recent pattern of selectively revealing Putin's plans as they learn them.

Ukraine conflict: Nigeria condemns treatment of Africans
Nigerian government has called on Ukrainian border officials and those in neighbouring countries on Monday to treat its citizens equally. Nigerians, Ghanaians, Somalis and other Africans studying in Ukraine have been trying to escape across the borders along with hundreds and thousands of people. Crisis Group Senior Analyst Arrey E. Ntui went on social media to denounce the violations of human rights of Africans on the ground in Ukraine.

Russia's Lavrov says there is a danger of Ukraine acquiring nuclear weapons
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday that the "real danger" of Ukraine acquiring nuclear weapons required a response from Moscow. "We cannot fail to respond to this real danger," Lavrov added. Representatives from multiple nations reportedly did not attend Lavrov's speech and staged a similar boycott of his remarks at a U.N. human rights forum on Tuesday.

Shell to pull out of energy investments in Russia over war
Shell announced its intention Monday, Feb. 28, 2022 to exit its joint ventures with Gazprom and related entities. Shell also said it intends to end its involvement in Nord Stream 2, a controversial pipeline built to carry Russian natural gas to western Europe. Shell's U.K. rival BP announced plans to shed its almost 20% stake in Rosneft, controlled by the Russian state.
