First Texas bus of migrants arrives in NYC

A bus full of migrants arrived in New York City from Texas on Friday morning. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the migrants were dropped off at Port Authority. Abbott has dispatched dozens of buses with thousands of migrants to Washington, D.C., since April. He said NYC will now also be a drop-off location.

Senate Republicans block $35 cap on price of insulin from Democratic bill

Seven Republican senators voted with all 50 Democrats to maintain a $35 monthly cap on the price of insulin. The measure targeting people not covered by Medicare was ultimately blocked from being included in the Inflation Reduction Act. Democrats won a partial victory when the parliamentarian allowed the $35 insulin cap to apply to Medicare beneficiaries.

Maryland Towns to Pay $5 Million in Black Teen’s Death in Police Encounter

Anton Black, a 19-year-old former star high school athlete with a nascent modeling career, died after being restrained by three police officers, who held him face down for about six minutes. Lawyers for Anton Black's family announced the settlement terms at a news conference on Monday. The $5m settlement includes attorneys fees and requires the three towns to make changes to their policies on police use of force.
