The Ground News rating system adds context and transparency to every news story. Readers from all walks of life can conveniently identify media bias, check source credibility, and view ownership data for news outlets around the world.
The bias and factuality ratings are determined using three independent news monitoring organizations: AllSides, Ad Fontes Media, and Media Bias Fact Check. The ownership categories were researched and developed by Ground News.

Our Team
Ground News is based in Kitchener, Ontario, in Canada's KW tech corridor. Harleen Kaur and Sukh Singh, siblings with backgrounds in aerospace engineering and nanotech, founded the company in 2017 out of the University of Waterloo's Velocity incubator.
Supporting them is a team of curious and ambitious employees dedicated to our mission of helping readers better understand the news. They bring a diversity of perspectives, nationalities, and professional experience, including work at Vice, SmartNews, Google, Strava, Spotify, and a range of high-growth startups.
Our Founders
With a degree in aerospace engineering, Harleen started her career at NASA where she worked on the Pluto-bound spacecraft New Horizons. She went on to join a startup in Berlin to help build and launch five earth-observation satellites. She was later recruited to Rolls-Royce, where she became the youngest and first female vice president in their jet engine customer business division.
After working in an area as complex as space itself, Harleen found it strange that we don't have an easy way to find out what's happening on our own planet. In 2017, she co-founded Ground News so readers could better understand how the media ecosystem operates and easily access reliable, diverse coverage for any story without the influence of engagement-maximizing algorithms. She lives in Kitchener, Ontario with her husband and their son.
Sukh is a University of Waterloo Nanotechnology Engineering graduate. He launched his first startup through the university’s E-co-op program at age 19, working on solid-phase microextraction technology for medical applications. After gaining experience in sales at Procter & Gamble and R&D at Danaher, Sukh spent three years as a management consultant at Bain & Company where he advised companies in industries spanning telecom, retail, and insurance. Sukh co-founded Ground News with his sister, Harleen Kaur, in 2017. He lives in Kitchener, Ontario with his wife and their daughter.

Ground News is supported by our subscribers and independently controlled and operated by our founders and team. We have also raised funding from investors who value our mission of building a more well-informed world. Our investors come from across the political spectrum and have founded and led companies including the Associated Press, USA Today, Riot Games, TD Ameritrade, and Shopify.
