Yorkie survives alligator attack in Florida, faces long recovery
Zoey survived with four broken ribs and collapsed lungs, and the animal hospital gave her a 50% chance to live.
On Tuesday, a 6-year-old Yorkie named Zoey survived an alligator attack in Englewood, Florida, leaving her with severe injuries. The dog has since recovered and returned home.
Hearing her cry, owner Alice Trowbridge and her daughter ran outside to find Zoey on a sea wall. "We found her lying on the sea wall covered in blood," Trowbridge said.
Zoey suffered four broken ribs and collapsed lungs during the encounter. An animal hospital initially gave the Yorkie a 50% chance to live.
Friday morning marked the first time Trowbridge and Laura Dujmovich were able to bring Zoey home. Dujmovich said the dog is "the glue that holds the house together."
Adopted during COVID, Zoey is significant to Trowbridge, who credits the pet with saving her life. Trowbridge called the incident the "scariest thing I have ever been through.
