Forget the New iPhone, the Xiaomi 17 Series Has a Rear Screen and a Giant Battery
Xiaomi's new 17 Pro and Pro Max smartphones feature Snapdragon 8 Elite chips, Leica cameras, and batteries up to 7,500mAh, aiming to rival Apple's iPhone 17 series.
On September 27, the Xiaomi 17 series goes on sale in China after Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max with preorders already open.
Earlier this month, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing said skipping the '16' aligns the 17 series to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone 17, a strategy CEO Lei Jun emphasized at launch.
Both Pro models ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and use 50MP main sensors with Leica Summilux lenses plus differing periscope telephotos on Xiaomi 17 Pro versus Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
The top-end model is priced up to 6,999 yuan, nearly $981, and pre-orders are live in China but likely won’t reach the United States due to the ongoing US ban on Chinese phones.
With a 2,500-person chip team, Xiaomi aims to strengthen its vertical integration as its EV segment approaches a US$200 billion valuation and about 20% of revenue this year, according to Xiaomi said.
