Cops Shoot Axe-Wielding Woman
Police said a Taser failed before officers fired, and investigators are reviewing the confrontation that left the woman dead.
Police shot and killed a woman at a residence in Firle, an inner eastern suburb of Adelaide, early Thursday morning after responding to reports of an armed confrontation.
Officers arrived at the Gwynne Street property after receiving reports "that a woman was armed with an axe" and were confronted by the woman, who allegedly threatened them upon arrival.
During the incident, police deployed a Taser, which was ineffective, before they "discharged a firearm, striking the woman." One officer suffered minor injuries during the struggle.
Although officers attempted first aid, the woman died at the scene after South Australia Ambulance Service paramedics arrived. Police have since closed Gwynne Street to the public.
Major Crime Investigation Branch detectives, Forensic Response Section officers, and Internal Investigation Section investigators are at the scene to "examine the circumstances surrounding the incident" as an internal investigation begins.
