Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Head Stepping Down for Media Job
Edward O'Keefe will lead New York's flagship PBS station after seven years building the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, which opened July 4.
- On Thursday, Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library CEO Edward O'Keefe announced he will leave his position Sept. 18 to become president and CEO of The WNET Group, New York's flagship PBS parent company.
- O'Keefe led the launch of the $450 million Medora, North Dakota institution, which opened July 4, 2026, and has welcomed more than 40,000 participants since its debut.
- Before his seven-year tenure, O'Keefe built a 20-year media career including leadership roles at ABC News, CNN, and NowThis, where he won a Primetime Emmy Award.
- The library's Board of Trustees launched an Executive Search Committee to identify a successor, while O'Keefe stated he leaves day-to-day leadership "with complete confidence" in the team.
- O'Keefe will succeed Neal Shapiro, who is retiring this year, and is tasked to lead the organization at a "pivotal moment" for public media.
