Reports: Hopkins to Get the Nod at QB for the Badgers Against Rutgers
Ryan Hopkins gets the start as Wisconsin seeks a sharper offense after a quarterback switch, with the Badgers facing Rutgers in a key Big Ten matchup.
Wisconsin Badgers head coach Luke Fickell will start true freshman Ryan Hopkins at quarterback against Rutgers on Saturday, replacing senior Colton Joseph, who has started eight games this season.
Joseph has failed to eclipse 100 yards passing in three consecutive games, with a 55.6% completion percentage—the lowest among Big Ten starters—prompting the Badgers to seek offensive improvement.
Hopkins received an extended look during last Saturday's 30-0 loss at Iowa, replacing Joseph in the fourth quarter and completing eight of 13 passes for 93 yards and an interception.
Joseph is reportedly dealing with injuries and described as "not himself," though Fickell previously said, "This isn't what this is about," when asked about a quarterback change.
Kickoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. ET at Camp Randall Stadium on Big Ten Network; if Hopkins plays well, Wisconsin is positioned to let him retain the starting role.
