When Is the Next Solar Eclipse in the United States?
Florida will see a partial eclipse in 2028, and NASA says a total solar eclipse will cross the state in 2045.
While Floridians miss today's total solar eclipse, the next solar eclipse visible from Florida arrives Jan. 26, 2028, with a major path of totality scheduled for Aug. 12, 2045.
The last solar eclipse visible from the Sunshine State occurred on April 8, 2024, when cities across Florida experienced roughly 40% to 70% obscuration of the Sun.
Skywatchers in the United States will have another astronomical event to anticipate later this month. A lunar eclipse will be visible across much of the Americas, Europe, and Africa on the night of Aug. 27 through Aug. 28.
Unlike during a solar eclipse, the lunar eclipse will not require specialized protective eye gear for safe viewing. The event begins shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 and lasts until nearly 2 a.m. on Aug. 28.
Weather conditions can always play a role in eclipse visibility. Cloud cover associated with storm systems passing over the Northern Hemisphere will be the greatest potential hindrance, though smoke from wildfires could also reduce visibility.
Faced with the expectation of the imminent phenomenon, many look to the future and wonder if they will again enjoy a natural spectacle of similar characteristics.
