Renton Police Shoot, Kill Suspect Who Shot Firefighter
A firefighter was hospitalized in stable condition after officers returned fire and killed the suspect, police said.
On Thursday, Nov. 5, a Renton firefighter was shot in an Albertsons parking lot on the 4600 block of Northeast Sunset Boulevard; Renton Police Department officers returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect, police said.
Officers arrived just before 8:30 p.m. to assist the Renton Regional Fire Authority with an unconscious person in a vehicle when they heard a gunshot, according to police.
Paramedics transported the wounded firefighter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in stable condition. The patient remained in satisfactory condition as of Friday morning, Nov. 6, a hospital spokesperson stated.
The Valley Independent Investigation Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting, with the Auburn Police Department serving as lead agency while Renton Police staff are excluded from the inquiry.
Investigators from eight law enforcement agencies comprise the review team, while the incident caused road closures Thursday night near Duvall Avenue Northeast at Sunset Boulevard.
