Vikings Return RB Jordan Mason From Injured Reserve After Broken Thumb Kept Him Out the Last 4 Games
The running back’s 21-day practice window opens after a thumb fracture sidelined him for the first four games, easing Aaron Jones’ workload.
On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings designated running back Jordan Mason to return from injured reserve, initiating his 21-day practice window.
Mason sustained a thumb fracture during the September 13 opener against Green Bay, where he rushed for 59 yards and one touchdown before the injury ended his season start.
In Mason's absence, 31-year-old veteran Aaron Jones has assumed the lead back role, recording 410 rushing yards while playing around 80% of offensive snaps for the undefeated Vikings.
Mason will return to practice Wednesday to begin his recovery; NFL rules grant him three weeks to practice before the team must add him to the active roster or he becomes ineligible.
Team officials expect Mason to be available after the minimum absence, which should alleviate the heavy workload on Jones, who has averaged 19.4 rushing attempts per game.
