Game 6 of WNBA Finals Set for State Farm Arena at 12:30 p.m. ET Thursday
The change gives the Dream a larger venue with more than 17,000 seats after sellout crowds for Games 3 and 4, the WNBA said.
On Monday, the WNBA announced Game 6 of the Finals between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries will move to State Farm Arena, tipping off Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET.
The league worked with the NBA to secure the venue because the Atlanta Hawks had a previously scheduled game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at State Farm Arena that night.
To accommodate the change, the Atlanta Hawks moved their game to 8 p.m., resolving what ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported was 'a weekend of nonstop frantic discussions and negotiation.'
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said, 'We thank the NBA, Dream, Valkyries, Hawks, State Farm Arena and USA Network for the collaboration and flexibility that made this move possible.'
Moving to State Farm Arena allows the Dream to host more than 17,000 fans, significantly exceeding the 3,500-seat capacity of their normal home at Gateway Center Arena.
The WNBA finals series of the women's professional basketball league has reached the fifth game, and in any case a sixth game is needed, but the location and time were only locked in a few days before the game.
