NASA's Twin Spacecraft Will Execute Powered Slingshot Maneuvers on Their Way to Mars
NASA's ESCAPADE mission features a pair of identical spacecraft on their way to Mars. They launched outside of the normal launch window, so they'll perform powered slingshot maneuvers to boost their speed. Once there, they'll "fly" in formation and study how the solar wind interacts with what remains of Mars ancient magnetosphere.
ESCAPADE mission to fly past Earth twice in 2 days
On November 7 and 9, 2026, the twin probes of the ESCAPADE mission — first Blue and then Gold — will perform flybys of Earth on the way to Mars. The post ESCAPADE mission to fly past Earth twice in 2 days first appeared on EarthSky.
NASA is preparing the two ESCAPADE spacecraft to fly by Earth on November 7 and 9, bound for Mars. The article The two ESCAPADE spacecraft are preparing for flybys to Mars appeared first on FLIGHT.
On Saturday 7 and Monday 9 November, the two ships of the mission Escapade, returning to the Earth after a year to turn around the point of Lagrange L2, will propel themselves to Mars. A key step for these probes, which will use the Earth's gravity and their engine to accelerate.
Spacecraft will slingshot past Earth on the way to Mars
In a few days, NASA’s ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers) will perform a manoeuvre that no agency spacecraft has flown before — and do it twice. Each of the two ESCAPADE spacecraft will execute a “powered” flyby of Earth, combining Earth’s gravity with an engine burn, to slingshot itself toward Mars. The […]
NASA will use Earth's gravity and the probes' engines to propel them to nearly 39,000 km/h. This is the beginning of the journey to Mars.
