UK manufacturing PMI slips to five-month low but hiring strengthens

- Growth in output slowed to the weakest since April, yet Factory employment expanded at the fastest pace in two years, driven by rising production requirements and firms' desire to reduce work backlogs.
- "Higher levels of production were underpinned by increased intakes of new work, with demand from both domestic and overseas clients improving," Global said, though smaller firms faced declining output and demand.
- Matt Swannell, chief economic adviser to the Item Club, warned Manufacturers face a "difficult" few months ahead as the Iran war fallout continues, with higher energy costs squeezing business profitability.
