UK husband accused of drugging and sexually abusing his wife stands trial with 12 others
The husband has pleaded guilty to 15 counts, and 12 co-defendants deny charges in a scheduled 12-week trial, prosecutors said.
- On Tuesday, a trial began at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester for a Stockport husband accused of drugging and sexually abusing his wife for more than two decades.
- The husband, a man in his 60s from Stockport, has been charged with 48 offenses dating back to 2004, and has pleaded guilty to 15 counts while denying the remaining 33.
- Twelve co-defendants, aged 28 to 73, deny the allegations, with prosecutors alleging some men were invited to the couple's Stockport home about 30 minutes southeast of Manchester to commit the crimes.
- Separately, Keith Fotheringham, a 59-year-old from Dundee, Scotland, has pleaded guilty to assault by penetration, conspiracy to rape, and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent.
- Among those on trial is Jonathan Kirk, a 43-year-old paramedic from Stockport, and Karl Lindsay, a 55-year-old former football club chief executive, with the trial scheduled to last 12 weeks before His Honour Judge Maurice Greene.
