Ubisoft Is Finally Testing a Way to Ditch Its Own Connect Launcher on Steam
The test keeps cross-progression, cross-play and rewards while removing the separate launcher for Steam players, Ubisoft said.
- Starting with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Ubisoft is testing a new Ubisoft Connect Services Steam tool that allows game features like cross-progression and cross-play without requiring the Ubisoft Connect launcher to be installed.
- Ubisoft has pushed its own digital platform since 2009, previously called Uplay and Ubisoft Game Launcher, to manage DRM and DLCs across its game library. The mandatory launcher requirement has frustrated Steam users forced to run dual software.
