Although Ubisoft has been trying to rebuild its fortunes with new projects for some time, recent reports suggest that its management isn't very keen on straying from established formulas. At least, that's what Insider Gaming indicates, reporting the cancellation of 'Alterra', a project that was announced in 2024 and had already been in development at Ubisoft Montreal for around 18 months.

Ubisoft officially put an end to the development of its secret project, code name Alterra, a life simulation game inspired by Animal Crossing and Minecraft. The announcement was made internally to Ubisoft Montréal's teams. This decision is part of the publisher's extensive restructuring, which focuses on its major franchises, without leading to direct dismissals at the moment.
