Two families raise staggering £225,000 in memory of loved ones
The families said the money will support clinical trials and the AML Registry as they honor Toby Griffiths and Rick Alphonso.
The Griffiths and Alphonso families from Cleobury Mortimer joined forces to raise money for Cure Leukaemia following the deaths of Toby Griffiths in July 2025 and Rick Alphonso in August 2025.
Toby was diagnosed with blood cancer in November 2023 and underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy before he died, while Rick died just 12 days after his own leukaemia diagnosis.
Fundraising efforts included the "Clays for a Cure" event in June, which raised £165,000, alongside cycling and walking challenges that generated additional funds for the charity.
James McLaughlin, chief executive of Cure Leukaemia, praised the families' efforts, stating the funds will cement support for clinical trials networks and continue backing the AML Registry.
Marcus said the experience "opened our eyes to all those who are going through something similar," as he prepares to run the London Marathon in 2027 for Cure Leukaemia.
