Toyota Issues Recall for More than 220,000 Vehicles: See Model Affected
Dealers will update software or replace seat backs free of charge, and owner letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 7, NHTSA said.
On Tuesday, Toyota announced a recall of 228,367 Toyota Sienna Hybrid vehicles following a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration addressing potential failures of second-row seat backs to remain secured during frontal crashes.
NHTSA reported that in certain frontal crashes, the force could disengage the second-row seat backs from their locked positions, failing to properly restrain occupants and increasing injury risk.
Dealers will update the supplemental restraint system electronic control unit software or replace second-row seat backs, depending on vehicle configuration, for certain 2022-2026 Toyota Sienna Hybrid vehicles.
For vehicles equipped with the "Mobility as a Service" package, dealers will replace the two second-row seat backs free of charge rather than applying the software update.
Owner notification letters regarding the recall are expected to be mailed Dec. 7, informing affected customers about the necessary service procedures and repair availability.
